The 1747-L553 is an SLC 5/05 processor for the SLC 500 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) platform. The controller has the highest memory in the SLC 5/05 category at 64 KB of memory. It integrates an RS32 Sub-D 9-pin connector for point-to-point communication with a locally installed human machine interface (HMI) or programming workstation. It also has integrated Ethernet, which is ideal for long-distance communication, with a transfer speed of at least 100 meters at 10/10 Mbps. It's also ideal for connecting to multiple devices at once. These two (2) ports can also be used simultaneously without affecting the logic execution ability of the processor.

The controller is ideal for medium to large scale applications, with control requirements ranging from manual to automatic control of discrete or analog loops, as well as complex control techniques utilizing a large number of embedded instructions.
