A Tricon system consists of one or more chassis components that contain I/O and communication modules. The first case of the system is called the main case (model 8110). To expand the system, you can add an extension chassis (Model 8111) and/or an RXM chassis (Model 8132). (For more information, see "System Configuration" on page 11.)

I/O Expansion bus Each chassis has six RS-485 I/O expansion bus ports in the upper left corner of the backplane. Channels A, B, and C have two sets of ports that provide two triple serial communication paths between the chassis. Each extension chassis and the RXM chassis that houses the main RXM module group requires a set of cables.

The cable set (Model 9000) has a standard length of 6 feet, and longer cables are available if required. The triple I/O bus transfers data between the I/O module and the main processor at 375 kilobits per second. The communication bus runs at 2 megabits between the main processor and the communication module.
