The discrete I/O module in 05704-A-0145 is also called "digital I/O" and refers to data that is in one of two states: on or off. These signals are also known as 1s and 0s, or on and off. When learning PLC programming, discrete I/o is usually much simpler than analog I/o. An example of discrete I/O is a push button switch, which uses pressure to turn the motor off and on.
Proximity switches are also an example of discrete I/O, as they can detect the presence of an object without physical contact and can be turned off or on without the use of an external force. When the PLC receives a signal from the discrete input channel, it becomes aware of the status of the discrete sensor.
